為表揚香港運動員於過去一年在運動方面付出的努力及於比賽中獲得傑出成績，中國香港體育協會暨奧林匹克委員會於2015年3月16日舉行「Samsung 2014年度香港傑出運動員選舉」頒獎典禮。本會乒乓球運動員黃家汶及游泳運動員蔡華傑分別榮膺「香港傑出運動員」及「香港最具潛質運動員」。
黃家汶為香港弱智人士體育協會乒乓球隊中的資深球員，一直於各大賽事中寫下佳績。黃家汶成功克服傷患，堅持接受艱苦的訓練，最終踏上個人的頂峰，於「倫敦2012殘疾人奧運會」中奪得她於國際單打賽事的首面金牌。自此，她不斷努力練習，調整打法及心態，力求在穩定的防守打法中同時增強其攻球能力，以面對將來不同的對手。黃家汶付出的努力終於在「仁川2014亞洲殘疾人運動會」中取得成果，她於賽事中利用經驗及穩定的狀態，先後撃敗實力頑強的對手，繼倫敦2012奧運後再下一城，勇奪個人首面亞殘運女單金牌，為其運動員生涯增添驕人成績。黃家汶於2014年賽事中表現突出，於國際乒乓球聯合會殘疾人女子單打中世界排名第七位，亞洲排名第二位(級別11 - 截至2015年1月1日)。
蔡華傑是一名極具潛質的年輕新晉游泳健兒，參與精英訓練短短兩年的時間已有顯著的進步。他早前積極備戰「仁川2014亞洲殘疾人運動會」，終在100米蛙泳獲得一面銅牌的優異成績，同年並在「2014瓜亞基爾殘疾人游泳公開賽」及「2014英國國際殘疾人游泳比賽」以個人身份取得二金一銀一銅和一金一銀兩銅的佳績，相信憑藉其無限的潛質，定必能在未來數年的國際賽事中取得更優秀的成績。
黃家汶及蔡華傑憑藉他們的決心及堅定的意志，於賽事中取得超卓成績，讓社會人士明白到智障運動員縱然面對不少困難，但經過刻苦訓練後，也能成為世界級運動員，獲得社會認同。二人堅毅不屈及永不放棄的精神更為其他運動員樹立了極佳的榜樣，讓他們知道只要努力向著目標前進，定能成為優秀的運動員，達成夢想。

Organized by the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, the prize presentation ceremony of the “Samsung 2014 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards” was held on 16 March 2015 to pay tribute to the Hong Kong athletes for their distinguished performances in the past year. Our table tennis athlete, WONG Ka Man, and our swimming athlete, CHOI Wa Kit, were awarded the “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards” and “Hong Kong Potential Sports Stars Awards” respectively.
WONG Ka Man is an experienced player of our table tennis team and has achieved outstanding results in competitions. She always devotes herself to regular trainings and tries her best to overcome her injuries over the years. Her efforts finally paid off with a hard-won gold medal, her very first Paralympic medal in table tennis, from Women’s Singles in London 2012 Paralympic Games. After the Paralympics, Ka Man keeps training persistently and has been regulating her tactics and mindset to deal with various styles of opponents for future competitions. Her efforts, together with stable performances, had brought her another glorious result in the “Incheon 2014 Asian Para Games” by winning a gold medal from Women’s Single. Ka Man has excellent performance in 2014, she ranked 7th in worldwide and 2nd in Asia in International Table Tennis Federation Para Table Tennis – Women’s Singles Class 11 (as at 1 January 2015).
CHOI Wa Kit is a young and promising swimmer. He has made incredible advancement after receiving two years of elite training. To prepare for the “Incheon 2014 Asian Para Games”, he devoted to trainings days and nights. His effort finally paid off with a bronze medal from 100M Breaststroke in the Games. Besides, he also won 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals in “2014 Quayaquil Open Para Swimming” and 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals in “2014 British Para Swimming International Meet”. It is believed that this potential youngster would go further and attain better results in international competitions ahead.
The success of Ka Man and Wa Kit have proven to the public that persons with intellectual disability can also excel in sports through practice and earned social recognition. Their perseverance and spirit of “Never say never” also serve as excellent role models for other athletes, showing that dreams always come true when you try your best in pursuing your goals.
